CuseCuse, GDT, Hogie and our Angst. Or How to Beat a Dead Horse.
So I found this article...It's older so you all may have read it already..But let's refresh!
http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2014/07/10/carlton-cuse-exhumes-the-horror-and-science-of-the-strains-vampires/
First
I'll start with a positive...(maybe) at least it's how I am interpreting it
"Eichorst is a combination of two characters from the book, but in neither event is he as fully realized in the books as he is in the series".
So, I am hoping this means that he is indeed a combo of Dreverhaven and Eichhorst and I get my wish. I think that would be super.
Second
The negative. This was written back in July 2014..
"If you read the books, you’ll discover that downstream in the story there actually are vampires that are hunting other vampires. In some form, there are sympathetic vampires that are part of the narrative as the story unfolds. That’s a spoiler that occurs deep in the first season of the show. This guy Quinlan, who is also known as Mr. Q in the books, shows up and he’s basically killing the vampires that are the consequence of the Master. That’s a big surprising turn in the story. We’re like, “Who’s he? What’s he up to? Why is he doing this?” Then he ultimately recruits a couple of our other characters to help him. It is layered. Your basic, bottom-line vampire wants to eat and feed, but that vampire can also be controlled by the Master. I’m not sure they are really super-nice. There’s not just one simple answer to, “Well, are these vampires good or bad?” That’s cool."
So even here, he admits that McHattie IS Quinlan. *Sunshine and bunnies. Sunshine and bunnies* I want to know what happened to make him change direction. It's killing me.
Third
"I’m not sure they are really super-nice."
I think this is what we've all been batting around. We all know about the cattle. But I would be super happy if they made him all Darkside. He's already dressed in black like a Sith Lord. Give him a double-bladed lightsaber and I'm done.
It's a good article..but still..
I think we needed a place to rant unless I missed it..which I can delete and repost it there, if I get a redirect.

Re: CuseCuse, GDT, Hogie and our Angst. Or How to Beat a Dead Horse.
I hadn't read that interview yet. His articulateness and clear passion for the story makes me like him more. It only deepens the mystery of what the hell caused Hogan and McHattie to say what they did.
You've all heard my theories multiple times on why we're having our angst: scheduling, contractual, personality diffs, actor dislike of role mechanics, plot change - all plausible. All three of them (Cuse, Hogan, GDT) were initially very vocal in the press about Quinlan's dramatic Episode 7 reveal. They were amped about it... but then something came up. Either a better plot idea or a blocker.
Dat horse - we be beatin' it flat.

Lies!!! They already admitted they didn't think the Quinlan character through and this clearly shows he had put thought into it. So much so that I like his take.

To be honest, Hogan comes off as the least articulate of the three. So I'm less inclined to take his word as gospel.
And... here's something to also keep in mind. An interview is always edited before it goes to print. Unless you see the person on video, speaking in one unbroken take, you're going to be reading/seeing through somebody's filter. It is AMAZING how things can get twisted and warped, even when an interviewer says they're transcribing direct from audio. Not saying I'm an expert here but I've experienced it. I've been in the music scene for many years and have sat in rooms either giving or listening to an interview being given, then two months later when it comes out in print, reading thru and going, "That is totally not what I/we said. AT ALL. Not even close."
But to anyone who wasn't there to hear it - the reader would never know it wasn't correct.
Just because an article quotes someone, it doesn't mean it's 100% accurate.
Just sayin'. I'll believe McHottie's getting killed off when I see him killed off in the show. Until then I remain unconvinced of anything.

I know right..he seems very passionate about the show...and it's a great article..He even has sarcasm when speaking about Mia "It concerns me that Mia sympathized with the vampires." and I had the feeling reading it, that he mentally facepalmed when the interviewer response with "I think she was suggesting that you take a look at a virus and it’s trying to survive." He's like "I KNOW IDIOT."
Now I wish I were a capillary worm on the wall listening in on the conversation that changed our world. I guess we will never know, unless they address it after. Maybe Stephen is a curmudgeon and complained vocally about the makeup process. Maybe he was being sarcastic, but he could have said it to someone who doesn't get sarcasm (they should be exterminated from the planet). He seems sarcastic in interviews and if you get some wilting lily who doesn't get it, it can make your life/job hell.
BUT, I am still torn, that he admits that it was Quinlan.
Hogan FOR SURE seems like the one who is the most lax when talking about it..Although..HE admitted that Stephen was Q as well..so.
In my dreams, I'd like to believe that they are all frakkin with us. I bet Stephen, Hogie, GDT, and Cuse got together, hopped up on Tim Hortons coffee and said "Let's fuck with the Fandom, especially the Fan Girls". They think he's HOT. HOT. The fuck is wrong with them??"
*nods of agreement*

I can't tell if McHattie is just soft-spoken and a man of few words or if he's got a little bit of troll in him.
My fantasy is to find out where Hogan lives and go to his house in the middle of the night dressed up as Quinlan. I'll knock on the window and when he comes to check it out, I'll say, "Chuck Hogan, the Fan Girls sent me to punish you for your sins against the Fandom..."
And then the cops will be called and I'll get the shit tased out of me despite all the tac gear... it'll be good times.

I wanna come!! I'll dress in my MandoMeowMeow cosplay and I'll distract his family. According to his Twitter profile, there is at least one spawn in the household. Kids love the cosplay. I figure the wife will just be horrified when she sees you, maybe she'll just pass out. I can gag and drag her into a broom closet. Giving you more time with Hogan.
I can also keep watch for the POPO.
I will record the takedown for prosperity, not to be confused for evidence for the Prosecustion.
I can upload quickly to all social media platforms with the hashtags #NotAllFandoms #WeAreQuinlan.
I also just scored the Strain DVD set for $22 from Amazon.ca..
I then proceeded to spend 75 on books. The struggle is real, readers. IT'S REAL!!

Let us not overlook the possibility that he's trolled all of us with his "I think I’m headed for an early demise" comment. He could be sitting in his house right now, a snifter of good brandy in one hand, his iPhone in the other, feet up on a hassock, reading all our online paroxysms and smiling that evil little smirk of his.

Maybe I can barter with her. I would appreciate having him when he's on set, in full McHottie makeup.

Re: CuseCuse, GDT, Hogie and our Angst. Or How to Beat a Dead Horse.
Found another older article. This time from Hogie. It's from Oct 6. http://www.tvfanatic.com/2014/10/the-strain-finale-post-mortem-chuck-hogan-explains-all-teases-se/
" TVF: Are the plans in season two to get more of Quinlan’s back story?
CH: Yes, there is. There's going to be some interesting…but yes. There's going to be some significant developments there with that character."
He does refer to the character as Quinlan earlier on in the article..but that last sentence..THAT CHARACTER...THAT...THAT...
---->THAT...<----he's rather twisty with his wording, the bugger. So back then, had we been paying attention...we prolly could gleaned something from that sentence..
And one with GDT: Although he too is admitting it's Q his wording cracks me up.
http://www.tvfanatic.com/2014/08/the-strain-q-and-a-guillermo-del-toro-on-names-music-the-arrival/
"He’s one of my favorite characters. He comes in in the middle of the season. He is one of my favorite characters. My favorite characters are a Mexican wrestler that comes in in the second book, Mr. Quinlan and Setrakian. Those are the characters I get my rocks off the most because they’re great, unlikely heroes. And Q comes in…his introduction is really, really good. Really, really good. And by the end of the season you’ll realize he’s there to stay."
Well Sir, we ALL get our rocks off just thinking of Q...get in line.

I really don't get Chuck. Regarding Gus, he's quoted in the interview "Yeah, [Gus], as opposed to mostly everyone else, it’s actually quite different from the books because in the books, he crosses with Setrakian early on in jail and so they have some sort of relationship."
Doesn't Gus meet Setrakian in the jail in the TV show, too?

No, they meet up when Gus returns the clock his brother stole from Setrakian's store. So technically, they meet up in the store.

"Some sort of relationship..." lol, if you could call it that. It's a very short exchange.
EDIT: Then again, I suppose that Gus's actions are a little different in the book. Making a return to do the right thing.

Re: CuseCuse, GDT, Hogie and our Angst. Or How to Beat a Dead Horse.
Thanks for the clarify! It's been a while since I watched those earlier episodes. Gus in the show is definitely a better balance of good struggling with bad than Gus in the book. In fact, if I hadn't seen the show first, I might not have liked "book Gus" very much. He's pretty shallowly written in a lot of places. There were a couple spots in TNE where I wanted to slap both him AND Eph, maybe not in that order, but slaps nonetheless.

Yeah..I agree....book Gus was a little be of a prat. Maybe someone should slash Gus and Eph. The perfect marriage. Gus could keep up with Eph's supply of oxy. It's true love.
I forgot that they didn't meet in prison. I tend to blend the books and show into one memory. Once I get the dvds I can brush up.

I had to go rewatch episodes 1 & 2 last night - I had completely constructed an entire show scene in my mind where Gus meets Setrakian in the jail. Kinda freaky what the brain can do with memories.
Gus/Eph pairing would be an endless series of domestic violence events where Gus punches Eph out every time Eph whines like a little bitch.

50 Shades of Ephraim.
Follow the relationship between a streetwise thug and a wigged out CDC Doctor.
Contains strong language, drug abuse and strong sexual situations which may or may not be confused with domestic violence. We do not condone domestic violence, but sometimes you gotta put your drug-addled bae in place. Especially when bae is planning to sell your tight perfect ass to the enemy.
