Young Quinlan

Does Quinlan seem like the type to be a douche/jerk/asshole when he was younger? Like before the wife but after his mom was killed. I'm doing a fanfic and I keep thinking that maybe he was like the other Roman characters in the movies and shows, ya know... Jerk, loves sex/is very seductive, loves to fight, show off, etc.

I need opinions and thoughts for a fanfic chapter, pleeeeease x.x

Well after his mother was killed he stayed hidden until he was caught by slavers. Then put into the Gladiator school. Slaves tend not to have an attitude.
Even when he won the love of the crowd with his wins in the games, he was still a slave. He wasn't one of the Free Born men who decided to join. (And when they joined, they gave up their rights. He had zero to start) His fellow Gladiators were about to gank him when Faustus saved him. I get the feeling he didn't really have any friends in The School. So I doubt he acted like a jerk.
His life seemed pretty lonely.
I bet he enjoyed the Legion though. They liked him enough to make him that sword and to raise him through the ranks. It was rare for a Free Born lower class man to make it into the high ranks, let alone a Freed Man. (The good thing about the Legion is that it was one of the places that allowed for social movement within Roman Society) I'm only guessing that Faustus gave him his freedom. It says "taken in"..so I feel that he gave him his freedom. (Also...Freedmen weren't allowed to join the Legion except in times of great crisis..but it's a story sooo)
He probably did partake in the brothels. They were RIGHT there. They always set up next to the garrisons. But I always thought he'd treat the prostitutes with respect. Being a whore was a lot of hard work for little pay. (and that's if they were free born women).
I don't like the idea of him being a jerk. He may have been a bit feral. Maybe a few accidents to both women and men through the ages when he got a bit blood lusty. The battlefield probably helped alleviate that tension.
I'd think Faustus would have "My Fair Quinlan'd" him, and the military would tidy up any other loose threads.

Would he have been cocky, you think? Not very shy, like he knows what the hell he's doing in everything he does (even if he doesn't know wtf he is doing lol he still acts like he does?)

I think that it's important. That Quinlan be a man of his time. If having a lot of sex and being seductive. Were the norms of the time. Than I'd go with it. It's going to be how these norms are written. That's going to matter most.
Like. I do think Quinlan would have been very sexually man. Would have used brothels and would have had loves, but he would have been a good man. To all the girls he had.
When it comes to him being seductive. I don't think he got a lot of pleasure out of the pain of others, but he is a vampire. He did need to kill to live. he also loved battle and was probably a little trigger happy, but only on the battle filed. I don't think he would buy slave. Just for the pleasure of torturing them. As much as for drinking them later.

I like to think. That when he was young. Gladiator days and early Roman solider day. Quinlan probably was withdrawn, and quite. He's spend his whole childhood living in a cave. With a vampire mother. That he could barely communicate with, and whom he hunted for.
When Quinlan first entered human society. It must have been like bringing a child raised by wolves into the human world.

Although I do see Quinlan as cocky. especially after he became great at being a solider. I don't see him as having a bad attitude, or being a douche/jerk/asshole.

Not cocky. Confident. Which he would have gained through his successes as a gladiator. Then more so when he was "adopted" by Faustus. That's not a very sexual story, but I bet it would be a nice one. Probably the first time in his life that a man treated him with respect on a human level. In the school, he's just a token to earn them money. Faustus probably told him about what he is on a very minimal level. I wonder if he even told him all he knew and that's part of why Q was like sod off, to the Ancients. It's like he already knew what he was, and that's why he wanted to hang on to his humanity for a while longer.
It would have been awesome (sad) for the Master to have killed Faustus as well. I bet he was like a father to Q.
I shall rewrite The Strain and make everyone cry.
He was for sure feral/wolf like in the beginning. It must have been terrifying for him. I wonder how much of his mother remained human..did she speak to him in human tongue or in grunts and points? Was he even aware that humans don't speak from within their heads, it's through their mouths. Would that even have occurred to her transforming mind?? When he's taken by authorities, did he just scream into their heads? He'd have no clue.
I really hope they address this shit. Again, Petition for Full Season of Quinlan Backstory.
He'd gain more confidence in the Legion. But again, don't think he'd be cocky.
That came later when he joined the Ancients and had to deal with Industrialized humans on the reg.

I picture Faustus being kind of a douche to everyone else but sort of fatherly to Quinlan.

I was having issues with my fanfiction Tropic Storm, when he starts falling for Marina. I'm having issues with how he would react around her when he realizes he loves her. I dont know how he would act while going at it or before/after the deed.

I agree with VE that he'd be more withdrawn by nature. Speaks when spoken to, especially in the presense of an emperor or king.

As the head of an army, I imagine him to be calm, collected, and a bit distant. He can see what men are capable of, but this has been his world. I credit his wife with being among the first to bring out true pleasure and enjoyment in him... but that should be a surprise to no one who has dealt with me in this fandom, LOL

After all, regardless of what he's done or where he has been I don't think Q ever quite felt he belonged. He's half human- part of being human is that you need some sort of connection. And even the Ancients were secure in the knowledge that they are part of one being.

I want him to feel a sort of belonging with Marina but I want him to be confident in things she not confident in; such as fighting/self defense, sex, socializing.

(She has only just reached adulthood and was sheltered growing up, she had to sneak out to do things, she had just turned 17 when Faustus captured her and gave her to Quintus as a gift)

Later in the fic when she has more experience being mature and such, she is going to fight by his side against the master.

Even though we all say he does, I want to hear it from GDT himself and I want to ask him quite bluntly so we can get a definate yes or no: DOES QUINLAN HAVE A DICK?!

I just spend hours having to rewrite a post I lost, just to lose it again!

Thanks...it would be interesting to write both the Faustus and Mother Storylines..Both intrigue me VERY much!! May I also add that after his retirement, Quinlan introduces his family to Faustus..perhaps THIS is how the Master finds Q..through HIS connections with people that hate Faustus..Master tracks Faustus..pulls Q's location and present info from his thoughts as he drains him.

I just don't see Faustus being a douche. He was obviously very learned. He'd travel in some small secretive circles outside of his Senator ones. He'd probably not want to piss anyone off and have them nose around his collection of Dark Stuffies. That's all he'd need is to have someone pissed off with him and kill him outright. Ahhhhh, Roman Politics. LOL Good Times were had by none..ok, maybe a few stabby few.
I just feel that he'd have outright respect for Quintus, knowing what he knows about the Born and the Ancients. He knew enough not to tell The School or others what he was. The school would have lost their money driven minds! He took him in, cleaned him up, THEN presented the Legion as a smart career move. "Son,may I suggest the Legion. You can work out all your blood lust angst and feed off the fallen. You'll get a good wage, retirement, and you can advance your status."

I guess it would deepened on how old Q is. If he's had sex already, or knows anything about sex to be gain with.

I don't know. He would most likely be a little surprises. To have a room full of people wanting to have sex with him and let him watch them have sex with each other. For him.

I don't see Quinlan as being whorish, but I think in his younger days. He would take a few girls at a time. Alone  to bed. Quinlan would use the orgy to find a few pretty girls. Just for that. Of cause. He could be into the swinger life style.

He'd come off little with drawn. Standing like a wallflower at parties. If there was nothing, or no one to interact with him. 

In conversations. If he didn't know anything about the subject matter, or was very interested in the conversation. He'd be a stiff talker. Overly formula. As well.
