How would Quinlan....

How would he comfort someone that was greatly depressed? Lover and/or friend?

With words of love,soft caresses,holding the person to him...if he really loved them of course,if he didn't really know them is another story..

He would ask questions. And listen very carefully to the answers.

When I get depressed I think of things like this for some reason. I'd like to think he'd cuddle lol

I'd like to think that time and wisdom would lead him to, like GD said, as questions... and kindof lead whoever it is toward a new perspective or kind of understanding about the situation, if that makes sense.

I think that when it comes to normal people time has jaded him a bit where he's used to tears and can be a bit distant, especially if he's of The mindset that the world is ending and things need to get done lol.

I think that's part of the delight of pondering him and his behavior. To survive over millennia, one would have to become emotionally numb... and we all like to imagine there's a person out there who could reach through that protective armor and reawaken the feeling being within.

Surely he would feel sympathy for someone he was forced to help against the strigoi. I don't think he'd ever be a love at first sight kind of guy, unfortunately.

I was talking with my mom about it and she mentioned he was loaded/rich and all, so if he was in love with someone, to cheer her or him up he could get her something lol but that also seems OOC for him.

Maybe. Maybe not. I can imagine that someone who isn't necessarily a love interest also tugging on his heart strings. Maybe someone who lost a child, etc.

yeah thats true...i imagine him cold as stone....but part of me just wants to explore his loving side that must be buried so deep,it would take a lot to make it shine through..

I wonder if he can be seduced haha

On a more serious note, maybe he did have someone he kind of had crushes on throughout the years? Or found a friend that also seemed like a father figure? I feel bad for him! You think he would feel upset at not being able to reproduce and have kids?

There's a lot which could be done here. I'm sure there was someone who he admired. I'm sure Alexander the Great had his attention.

I toy with this idea. In the heat of passion, maybe. God only knows everything seems like a good idea in those moments. But in quiet times, I doubt it. He would have seen so much of all that was horrible in the world.

I believe he would have been not upset but more curious about his nature on that subject...and just forget about it over the long period of time...maybe see it more of a blessing than a curse??

What about senator Faustus Sertorius. I think he would have been a father figure to Quinlan. The guy named Quinlan and even give him his last name. he toke him in and was the first person. To emplace to Q what he was.

There's nothing wrong with that. We know so little about Q's relationships. With anyone of his past. Other then his wife and child. Even then. There's little given.

I like to see Faustus as a bit of a mentor to Quinlan and a father figure. Teaching him the ways of men, Roman and of what he was. Giving him freedom and a chance at a better.

Agree on Faustus as a mentor. I see him as a collector of things occult, an intelligent man with dark leanings. Quinlan would have been a prize find. Faustus might have treated him as a son. Obviously he did well by Quinlan, getting him into the army and setting him up for an incredible career. I'm sure there was a political motivation to it as well. A senator who placed an immortal in the Roman legion could ensure his political goals would be served long after he was dead, carrying on legacy and power for much longer than any other human could ever hope for.

I think that as time went on, he may have become less concerned about being sterile. However, in his earlier days I can see this causing some upset. Maybe not a ton.. just a twinge here and there. It's been brought to my attention that in Roman tines a man's worth could have been measured in his ability to have sons. Though Q was a kickass fighter, this was something he did not have, one more thing to separate him from the humans he walked among.

I actually think DHL having a child may have been more of a blessing at the time. Then he had two things he may have wanted (must have wanted, since he settled down). He had a wife and a sort of prodigy

However, as an immortal, you will always outlive your mortal loved ones. He had ample opportunity to adopt more children, but didn't. Perhaps he had been burned badly enough by the one experience where he stayed awY from that sort of thing.

Good observation. That was true in Roman. The Roman society reviled around the family. No need to be with someone that couldn't make one.

I can see. In my imagination. Quinlan having a lot of lovers and mistresses. Young too. Drawn to his prestige and wealth, but never staying. He'd have them for a few years, but then they would leave. To go and marry and start families.

I agree. That this probably would have hurt Quinlan in his early days. Seeing all his lovers. Now these are all woman he was close with too. Go way because Q. Could not give them the one think money couldn't buy, and that was motherhood.

I'm sure as time whet on and culture changed. This may have gotten easer on him, but I did think that it ever whet away. We don't know that much about What Q was doing for all those centuries. He could have adopted a child off of the orphan train. It's all very possibly.
We all certainly believe that he had a lot of sex in his youth. So why not the possibility that he may have tried fatherhood and husbandhood.

AU where instead of a woman reaching Q after the centuries, it is a child.

That one be awesome! Here's an idea. For a story.

Quinlan takes in an orphaned girl. Whom he saves from her trued mother and father. This could be any time in history, and The Ancients are already in hibernation.

As the years go on and the girl grows up. She develops a cruse on her alabaster hero. That cruse turns into attraction and then love.

Quinlan doesn't know what to do. Keep her as a child he saved years ago or see her as a woman. That he is starting to fall for.
